Projects Using Plastics Data


The Plastic Film data set is used for various analyses in this online training workshop, which includes :

General Linear Model

Source of Data:

Johnson, R.A. & Wichern, D.W. (1998) Applied Multivariate Statistical Analysis, 4th edition, p338, Prentice Hall Publishers.

Description of Data:

A study was conducted to examine the effects of rate of extrusion and amount of additive on extruding plastic film.  Three properties of extruded film were measured:  tear resistance, gloss and opacity. The three properties are dependent variables for a multivariate model with two factors (extrusion rate and additive amount).

The variables in the data set are:


Extrusion: this has two levels


low (1)




Adaptive: this has two levels


1.0% (1)


1.5% (2)


Resistance: plastic film tear resistance


Gloss: plastic film gloss


Opacity: plastic film opacity
